Angela Hospice Launches New Support Groups for 2020

There’s no way around it: grief is hard. For those mourning the loss of a loved one, a sense of community can help, knowing that you’re not alone in your grief. Angela Hospice offers a variety of grief support groups that provide peer support, along with education and ideas to help you cope with loss.

This year, three new groups are being added to the roster. Healing After a Loved One’s Suicide is the first of the new groups to meet, with the initial session taking place Thursday, January 16, at 6 p.m.

“The group’s goal is to provide a safe environment for discussion, support, and education regarding grief, and support for those left behind after suicide,” said Debbie Vallandingham, Angela Hospice’s Bereavement Manager, who will be leading the group.

The Grieving Parents Support Group will connect parents who have experienced the unthinkable, the loss of a child. The group will meet for the first time Monday, January 20, at 6 p.m. The Music Therapy Group for Kids will premiere the following day, Tuesday, January 21, at 5 p.m.

“When words fail, grieving children can find an outlet in music,” Debbie explained. “Our music therapist and social workers will help children work through their grief in an uplifting way.”

All of Angela Hospice’s grief support groups meet at the Angela Hospice Care Center at 14100 Newburgh Road, Livonia, and are absolutely free of charge. All are welcome to drop in, no registration necessary. For our full calendar of meetings, visit our Support Groups Calendar, or check out our listing below.
