Care Center COVID-19 Wing

April 7, 2020

Dear Care Center Patients and Families,

Blessed Mary Angela, foundress of the Felician Sisters, established the order with a clear focus on providing care and support for those in the community who were the most vulnerable and marginalized, regardless of background or circumstances.

Her caring intent has been a cornerstone of the care Angela Hospice has provided since our own founding in Livonia in 1985. Since that date of inception, we have opened our hospice hearts and offered refuge under our wing to any in our community needing care and support at end of life.

In this spirit, the Angela Hospice Executive Team and Board of Directors Executive Committee have made the decision to provide our hospice care for those in need at this time, including people in our community that have been stricken with COVID-19. Indeed, we have already been providing care for individuals with COVID-19 where they are living in the community.

Due to the number of cases in metro Detroit and the overload capacities in our community hospitals, we will be dedicating a wing in the Care Center to care for our home care patients and other hospice eligible individuals that have tested positive for COVID-19 and are appropriate for our care setting.

We have not made this decision lightly and will be very intentional and diligent in caring for and protecting all of our patients and families who are needing our specialized end-of-life care and support during this most challenging time for all.

This wing will be isolated from the other wings; utilizing a separate entrance and dedicated staff. All precautions will be in place to protect our team members who are providing care for these patients. We will not be caring for patients that require ventilators, respirators, or other severe respiratory treatments in our Care Center. We will be caring for those people that have terminal health conditions, and have now tested positive for COVID-19.

Today we will continue working with our taskforce of dedicated team members to establish the protocols for this devoted "critical care" unit and hope to meet this need as quickly as possible.

"To love is to give everything that love demands." ~ Blessed Mary Angela

Peace and Blessings,
